The artist
Nashwa Shammout is a Palestinian-American fine artist based in Washington, D.C. Her paintings gather the scenes that hold a people together — the olive harvest, Jaffa's orange groves, an old-city doorway, a face that carries a song — and set them down in warm, deliberate color.
Alongside her fine-art practice she runs Nash Art Studio, a handmade line of mosaic plates, candles, embroidered keepsakes and decorated ceramics. One studio, two hands — one for the canvas, one for the craft.
